As I was riding tonight I was thinking about my improvement at our local TT and realized that I finally felt like Daniel-Son the first time Mr. Miyagi said, “show me wax on”. I know that several of us (my teammates) talked early in the season and I was skeptical about the intensity especially when you guys were doing 2 hours in the trainer torture chamber and I was bailing after an hour. Anyway, I just thought I would give a short plug for Coach OB and tell you that if you know anyone looking to make an improvement I would recommend him.

“Rick-Son, show me knees in!”

Where I was:

Before training with Coach OB I thought that cycling at maximum effort all the time was the way to go. I trained
inefficiently, not realizing how essential rest and recovery were. My cycling performance was poor, and my sustained
wattage showed for it.

Where I am now:

After 5 months with Coach OB I have already attained my targeted 4 watts per kg. My lactate threshold has improved by over 30 watts,
and my personal time trial record by over 2 mins. Now I train intelligently, with purpose, making each effort count.

I’m a busy mom, and work part time. I was struggling to find time to “fit” training into my schedule. I started racing competitively this year, and without a plan it was hard to figure out how hard to work and when. As a result, most of the time I was training too hard, without specific focus on how what I was doing would help me achieve my racing and fitness goals. I was getting stressed out because I was working so hard and not seeing improvement. I had bought books, did research on the web, talked to experienced cyclists, but I wasn’t successful in bringing all that knowledge together in the form of a working plan that worked for me. Working with Coach OB has been the key to bringing all the elements of training together. In the last few months I have improved dramatically in several areas, from bike handling, to racing performance and confidence. Coach OB creates training plans that are specific to my goals, training progress and schedule. Coach OB has helped me make the most of my training time!

What, when, how, why…. attention to my understanding of every little details of my training! Coach OB has helped me establish a consistency and clarity that I’ve not been able to achieve before…and to balance it all with my family and full-time job. OB’s constant communication and updates based on what he sees or… doesn’t see in my TP files, helps me plan day to day and week to week. He helps me understand when to push, when to rest, when to just have fun. I’ve learned to trust in the daily training process.

cincinnati cycling coachI decided to get into cycling in a bigger way two years ago. My approach was to ride as much as I could when I could. I showed improvement, but really was not achieving my goals. Signing on with Coach OB changed that. His knowledge on how to train provided me with proven methods for improvement. His experience and knowledge of all things cycling has also provided invaluable direction. Lastly, having all of the details (training routines, day by day direction etc.) provided by Coach OB is a huge convenience with my busy schedule. If you want to show real improvement, sign up.

As a working mother and competitive cyclist, my biggest challenge is fitting my training into my very busy life. After several years of trying to train on my own, I turned to Coach O’B this season for help. His data-driven approach gives my training better structure and really makes the most of my constrained training schedule. I have already seen noticeable improvements in my fitness. I really appreciate the regular communication that Coach O’B provides. He gives me constructive feedback on my racing, offers a wealth of knowledge on equipment, and helps keep me motivated. Between his carefully constructed plans and his positive energy, working with Coach O’B has made me excited about cycling than ever.

My schedule is really tight. I work full time, attend Grad School full time and must also find time to be a husband and a father. Despite these time constraints O’B has been able to make the most of my time. Within these restricted times I have seen tangible increases in performance, both on the road and trail, and in the lab where I have seen increases in my VO2 max.

A lot of coaches give you a 2 to 4 week plan and then cut you lose. Coach O’B stays in constant contact via email and phone and my schedule always shifts to match what is happening with me physically and mentally. Despite the fact that my racing is limited by time and money constraints due to my busy schedule, he treats me with the respect and attention deserving of a Pro/Cat1 racer. His encouragement and enthusiasm motivate and make him a powerful source of accountability for sticking to my training. I would recommend Coach O’B to anyone, from a recreational rider who just wants to be able to go farther, faster, to the competitive cyclist who wants to up their game. I may not be stepping on any podiums this year, but he treats me like I will, and if I do, it will be because I worked with Coach O’B.

Since my decision to work with Coach OB, my time on the bike has gained much more focus and purpose. I had reached a point where I needed someone to tailor my training to enhance my strengths, improve on my weaknesses and to help me to reach both short and long term goals. He has exceeded all expectations I had. He works with you to develop a program specific to your needs whatever they may be.

He is EXTREMELY accessible and is willing to discuss any topic that may come to mind. From training to nutrition to racing tactics, no question is too small to address. Whatever you are working towards, I would suggest talking with Coach OB. In a very short time I have seen real and measurable improvements on the bike as a result of his assistance!

“Coach OB has had a phenomenal impact on my cycling training and fitness in my one month+ since I have signed up to be a client. This is my first season back racing since 12 years ago and my personal life had taken a huge impact on my fitness level. I headed into winter training at 270 pounds and worked my way down to 260 by May 1 which is when I signed up with OB. OB came up with a structured plan and diet objective for me and in one month or so I am now at 243 and still trending downwards. I am confident by the end of the season that I will reach my goal racing weight of 210 or below and be ready to contend for podium spots next season. You must be motivated to stick with the plans that OB lays out for you. If you do you then you will be rewarded with the goals that you lay out with him. OB is very responsive and understanding as to your personal time commitments and can lay out the perfect plan that works with your schedule. It is also not uncommon for him to be following up with you if you do not keep in constant communication with him during your training which I have appreciated greatly. I highly recommend his services!”

O’Brien Forbes is something of a legend here in Cincinnati. I found this out while I was investigating him. Everyone in the cycling community seemed to know of him and respect his riding capabilities. Not ONE person had a bad thing to say about him. I don’t think you can find anyone who will say a bad thing about him. OB makes you feel like you are his only client, whether you are a junior racer getting ready for Nationals, or a masters 40+ woman trying to train and race. He works with you and your schedule. He stays in close contact. He’s a Momma Hen at races and will re-do your bib # or clean your glasses. OB is a special, one of a kind coach. You would be lucky if he has room in his schedule to work with you. At least that’s how I feel.
